Alimony and Spousal Support Obligations and Expectations
For those involved in a divorce, maintenance, also known as alimony, is an important element to consider. You may be counting on such support to help make ends meet. How much support should you expect to receive? On the other hand, you may be concerned about your obligation to pay support. How much will you need to pay each month?
We can help you find answers to these questions and others regarding divorce. Our firm is dedicated to helping families resolve alimony, child support, and other important issues surrounding divorce. The Law offices of Alexandra M. Goddard have been helping individuals and couples settle spousal maintenance matters for many years.
Illinois Alimony / Spousal Maintenance
In Illinois, spousal support is based on an analysis of twelve factors, which include the needs of both spouses, as well as the ability to pay pursuant to 750 ILCS 5/504. Different judges have different formulas and approaches to arriving at a number. We can help work that out by sitting down with you and your spouse and attempting to reach an amicable agreement. However, if an agreement cannot be reached, we will aggressively pursue the matter in court and fight for what we believe is right.
