Man jailed over shild support even though paid up

In a sad testimony to child support, a dedicated father was jailed, even though he had paid his child support in-full. Because a clerk made an error, a father from Texas was charged $3,000 and, even after paying that and an additional $1,000 he was jailed for months. Because of errors in the computer-automated system, his payments were not made from his pay stubs and when the gentleman realized this, he took steps quickly to right the situation. His attorney made an assumption that because he had caught the mistake and immediately made it right that there would be no repercussions. The prosecuting attorney decided to pursue and wanted $3,500 in fees because she was sure she could get a judge to agree with her.

There is a law that says that child support that is overdue can, in some cases, lead to jail time. This is what happened to the father involved. He was sentenced to six months in jail. He was shocked when he heard the verdict because he would then be unable to continue child support payments. He felt it was unfair and that it was not in his child's best interest at all. There was no appeal therefore the father had to report to jail. The brighter side to this story, if there is one, is that the father involved cares even more for his 11-year-old son. He gets reports of his son through his own mother who sees the young boy in church on Sundays. He wants his son to do the right thing and wants him to know that he loves him very much.

If you find yourself in a bind of child support, no matter which side of the battle you are on, in Illinois or anywhere in the country, know that a skilled attorney can assist you in your quest. Everyone deserves to be represented well. You don't have to feel like you are all alone.
