High asset divorce of singer Marc Anthony involves millions

A famous singer, Marc Anthony, is putting up quite an argument because the crooner's ex-wife has said he is not paying enough child support from a high asset divorce settlement. In fact, she has said in the past that he was not paying any money at all. In documents that have been obtained by the court system, Marc Anthony implied that he actually gave his ex-wife, who is a former Miss Universe from Puerto Rico, quite a bit of money per month.

That amount, the court documents say, is more than $28,000 a month in both spousal support and child support. Anthony is fighting her claim in court. As you can see, high asset divorces can lead to high child support and spousal support.

Anthony's ex-wife disputes this. She claims that she received half of that amount per month from Anthony for their two young sons. Anthony was made to disclose his worth in the court documents and that is said to be at $20.8 million. He is said to be paying additional child support for other children born to women he was in a relationship previously. More than likely, the twins he had with a former wife are included in another child support payment.

In November 2013, his ex-wife filed documents with the court that claimed he was not taking care of their two children, both boys, who are 10 and 12 years old. She claims in these documents that Anthony is not giving her enough in support funds. She claims that she had to sell her house in order to meet her obligations and is living in a shack in Los Angeles.

She says that he claimed to be poverty stricken when the divorce proceeding were going on; however, a week after the date their divorce became final, he purportedly purchased a ring for his then girlfriend at a price of $4 million. The two were married in 2000, separated in 2003 and then finally divorced in 2004. Anthony remarried less than a week after this high asset divorce became final.

Deciding to divorce doesn't come easily for most people. Many wonder how much they stand to lose in a divorce in terms of child custody, alimony and property division. Understanding your rights during a divorce may help ease your mind. An experienced Illinois divorce attorney may be able to show you better how to protect yourself and your children during this difficult, life-changing event.
