High asset divorce has prenuptial that may not matter

In a case of a high asset divorce, New York Nick's point guard Raymond Felton and his wife Ariane Felton have had another disagreement in their protracted divorce settlement. It has been reported that Felton, his wife and their respective legal teams were in conference with a New York judge. The conference went on for some four hours.

The 29-year-old Felton and his soon-to-be ex-wife were not able to work anything out in this conference. His wife, Ariane, is in law school and has hopes of graduating as a single woman.

They were both in the long session and sat on opposite sides of the court. They neither spoke nor acknowledged each other during the talks with the judge.

The 26-year-old Ariane has filed for divorced from Raymond Felton as of February 2014, saying that he cheated on her with another woman.

The previous week, Ariane called the police claiming that Raymond had been brandishing a gun while they were verbally sparing. He was arrested and was charged with felony weapons possession. His Belgian-made semiautomatic weapon was apparently unregistered. The case has yet to be presented to a judge.

They have a prenuptial agreement. Raymond purports that in that agreement, his wife is not entitled to any spousal support and this matter needs to be legally presented to an arbitrator in North Carolina, where he was raised.

Ariane Felton alleges that the prenuptial agreement is null and void if Raymond cheated on her, which she believes she can prove happened.

There was some progress in the case because their teams were able to discuss some of Ariane's school costs; however, they all were frustrated when exiting the court.

They are due back in court in July 2014.
