Actress Seymour affirms collaborative aspect in divorce

Celebrity divorces have a tendency to capture headlines. Usually it's because there is a significant amount of acrimony and conflict. That sense of friction has been a traditional trait of the marriage dissolution process whether the couple resides in Illinois or some other neck of the country.

But in a time when divorce is not nearly as uncommon or socially frowned upon as it was even five or 10 years ago, there appear to be more examples of couples dealing with their break-ups in a more collaborative fashion. Such seems to be the approach being taken in the recently announced divorce of actress Jane Seymour from current husband James Keach.

Word of the divorce became public and was confirmed by the pair earlier this month. The two had been married for 20 years and have twin 17-year-old sons. It is her fourth marriage and Keach's third.

The split apparently stunned many observers. The couple was thought to be happy together, but in a recent statement, Seymour and Keach confirmed that they have been separated for several months and that divorce proceedings are in the works.

At the same time, the couple's statement verifies that they are negotiating the terms of their split, rather than going toe to toe.

Details of possible terms haven't been made public at this point, including the question of possible child support. Considering that their statement says they remain committed to being devoted parents and to continuing to working together as in business and their shared charitable efforts, it would seem that they are seeking to work out their issues creatively, which is the hallmark of the collaborative law model.
