Classes may be mandated in child custody case in Illinois

When you get a divorce in Illinois, there is a good chance that child custody issues will arise. Sometimes, if the court sees that there are children involved, it may mandate that the two parents attend a court-ordered educational program that will allow them to learn what the effects of the divorce will be on the children.

The children are not allowed to attend, so some arrangements will have to be made. This is a class that occurs over a period of time, with each session lasting no more than four hours. This should not be treated as therapy; this is strictly an educational program.

Taking this series of classes will better help you understand what your kids may go through when the divorce is final. It doesn't mean that your case will be adjudicated in your favor if you attend; it just makes it easier for you to understand life from your children's viewpoint during and after the divorce.

You know your children very well and of course, you know how difficult this will be for them. You and your ex-spouse may need someone to act as a mediator between the two of you so that the children don't accidentally become a pawn that is used to get what is wanted. Having an individual who has extensive experience in this realm who can assist you may be something you want to think about.

You have to pay for these courses, and they are time consuming. They may well delay your divorce, so you may want to have a professional in your corner who can help you avoid this if you feel you don't need it. The court puts the needs and interests of the child ahead of those of the parent. Having someone who can put your situation in a positive light is invaluable at a time like this.
